Sunlight for Happy Hamsters

Today I’m sharing my #animalroomtour during the day while my hamsters, Cinnamon & Honey, slumber because I want to share a tip to help in the upcoming #winter months to make your hamster happier, too!

I used to keep my room pretty dark during the day, but I noticed that Honey was waking up after midnight which I found odd. After digging on HamsterCentral.com I found another hamster owner share that maybe more daily #sunlight was needed. Up until this point I thought hamsters needed darkness. As many #hamster owners know, keeping stress at a minimum helps hamster live longest so I dug as hard as I see Cinnamon & Honey do nightly.

I found a study that suggests that #hamsters may suffer from symptoms of anxiety and depression during the dark days of winter, just as some humans do in #seasonalaffectivedisorder

After my research I decided to do my own experiment! Cinnamon & Honey, my #robohamsters , got more daily light every morning when I pulled back my curtain and opened my blinds until twilight when I pull them closed.

They both improved after only a few days! I found this helps them both wake up earlier in the evening, they can be handled easier, and they stay more active in the entirety of their cage at night instead of being stuck to their wheel. These traits mean their stress is decreasing and daylight is working!

I love these lil gals so much that I do my best to provide the best #properhamstercare I know how to do! When I don’t know then I do research! I hope this info helps your little hammies, too!
