Alpine Animals: What are Marmots Whistling About?

The marmot is sometimes called a “whistle pig” due to the loud whistle it emits when it senses an intruder. What do those whistles mean? Are they different for different threats? Does a whistle in one part of Colorado mean the same thing in another area?

Colorado State University Biology Professor Greg Florant, PhD, helps viewers understand the various marmot calls, including the one he says they have specifically for him.

Thanks to the Colorado Tourism Office (@Colorado) for funding to help support the development of this alpine animal video series.
