Marmot Cowboy on Marmot dome – 5.8 or 10a – Tuolumne meadows Yosemite rock climbing

Climbed August 14th, 2021. https://www.mountainproject.com/route/114611772/cowboy-marmot

We climbed this route on a tip from Ed Hartouni and Linda Jarit when hanging out at the Lembert Dome picnic area. My good friend Justin (@imposter_foster) joined us on his first slab climb in the Meadows. This is an excellent, well protected, and generally clean moderate route on Marmot dome that isn’t in any guidebook (yet). With a short approach, great views, and pretty much the whole area to ourselves for the day its one of our new favorites.

I flailed pretty hard on the 10a finish. If you’re better at crimping than me (not hard to be) you’ll be fine. There is also an alternative 5.7 finish over to the left, although I’ve heard many people rap from the top of pitch 3.

0:00 Approach
0:25 Pitch 1 – 5.5
0:45 Pitch 2 – 5.7
8:05 Pitch 3+4 – 5.8
12:20 Bushwhacking
13:45 Pitch 5 – 10a
18:00 Descent + recap
