Marmot in the Tall Grass | A Photograph

The story behind this image: On one of our first section hikes along the John Muir Trail, we encountered this suspicious character – a Sierra marmot. Marmots are fat, furry, and about the size of a cat. They hide out along side the trail, waiting for the opporutnity to steal your lunch while you are looking the other way, We’ve lost as much food to marmots as to bears, over the years.
